UNDER-19s WIN AGAIN

2nd April 2004

Dundee United's Under-19 side travelled to Rosyth this afternoon to take on their Dunfermline counterparts and emerged winners by 3-1. Coach Tony Docherty had Aaron Conway, Barry Callaghan and Nicky McDonald unavailable through injury and illness but the team played well to get the full points.

The young Tangerines lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Gavin McCann in goal behind a back four of Stuart Abbot, Garry Kenneth, Steven Anderson and Ross Gardiner. In midfield were Eddie Smith, Steven Bell and David Robertson whilst up front it was Joe Andrew alongside Kenny Jarvis and William Easton.

United totally dominated the first half and were worth more than the two goal lead they established before the break. Kenneth opened the scoring in twelve minutes with a excellent back post header and Gardiner (pictured) made it two with a left foot shot on the half hour mark. If anything the visitors eased off slightly in the second period and Dunfermline pulled one back from the spot but Jarvis restored the two goal advantage near the end.

Tony was very pleased with the way the team played and singled out fifteen year old David Goodwillie and sixteen year old Garry Kenneth for their performances. "David is playing with the Under-17 side just now and he is a promising player for the future. We decided to give him a run with the Youth side today and he played for the last twenty minutes or so and he looked excellent. Garry has been in the Youth side a few times now and his progress is also very good."
