HEALTH SETBACK FOR CHAIRMAN

19th April 2004

In response to numerous enquiries directed to the Club and the Chairman in recent weeks, Mr Thompson has authorised the following statement to be issued to the website regarding his health.

As you know, Mr Thompson was diagnosed with prostate cancer last May. Shortly after this diagnosis was confirmed he underwent an intensive five week daily treatment plan at Ninewells Hospital.

The way of determining the success of this treatment is to measure the level of the PSA blood count. Early test results indicated that this measure was dropping but, unfortunately, the latest results have not been so encouraging. It has been recommended that he returns to the hospital for further tests and scans to determine the reasons for this.

We are sure that this setback will not deter the Chairman, who remains confident of making a full recovery. He would like to thank all of those who have contacted himself or the Club enquiring about his health. Mr Thompson and his family appreciate both the concern and the good wishes which have been conveyed to them. Dundee United fans can rest assured that he will continue to devote his time and energy to ensure the long term stability and steady progress of the Club.

We are sure that all United fans will join us in hoping that he makes a full and speedy recovery.
