YOUTHS TAKE POINTS AT LIVI

20th August 2004

For the SPL Youth match this afternoon away to Livingston, coach Tony Docherty went with a 4-4-2 formation with fifteen-year old John Gibson in goal again. Stuart Abbot, Garry Kenneth, Ross Gardiner and William Easton formed the back four with a midfield quartet of Barry Callaghan (pcitured), Greg Cameron, David Robertson and Kieran McAleenan. Up front, Nicky McDonald partnered Joe Andrew.

The teams were fairly evenly matched in a first half that produced no goals but the young Tangerines were probably just the better side and finished strongly. Robertson had and early chance and both Andrew and McDonald came close.

After the break United went in front after only five minutes when Callaghan scored an excellent individual goal. United then dominated for long spells with McAleenan in particular having a good effort from a diving header before Robertson netted the second just on the hour mark. Gregg Burnett then replaced Cameron. United were deservedly in front but they eased off slightly at this point and allowed the home side back into the game and they pulled one back. The recovery was short-lived as McAleenan restored United's two-goal advantage almost immediately to finish the match with a 3-1 win.

Tony said after the match, "I was really pleased with the performance and our players did well to bounce back after a bad result last week. The boys competed very well today and fully deserved the three points. It was a great team performance and everyone played their part and I would especially commend our young goalkeeper who hardly put a foot wrong all day."
