There were three changes to Ian McCall's starting line-up which faced Motherwell, with Lars Hirschfeld replacing injury victim Tony Bullock, Andy McLaren in place of James Grady and Stuart Duff being given a run-out at the expense of Mark Kerr. United were looking for a morale boost after the defeat to Motherwell at the weekend whilst First Division high flyers Clyde were looking to see how they could measure up against SPL opposition.
