YOUTHS EASE THROUGH THIRD ROUND OF SFA YOUTH CUP

7th November 2004

Tony Docherty fielded the side in the usual formation with most of the regular players in their usual positions. Euan McLean was in goal behind a back four of Stuart Abbot, Garry Kenneth, Ross Gardiner and Under-17 left back Sean Fleming. This allowed William Easton to move into midfield to join Barry Callaghan, Greg Cameron and David Robertson with a front two of Joe Andrew and Nicky McDonald.

United got off to a great start with Callaghan netting in five minutes after good work on the left by Fleming and Easton. That early goal eased any nerves there might have been and by half time it was 4-0 to United with Andrew, McDonald and Easton all finding the net as the young Tangerines controlled the game and created numerous chances.

As is often the case after a high scoring first half, chances after the break were fewer but United added a fifth with Easton getting his second of the afternoon. United took the opportunity to introduce the promising David Goodwillie for McDonald at half time and later he was joined by Marco Andreoni and Gregg Burnett who came on for Andrew and Cameron.

After the match Tony was full of praise for the players and said. "I was happy with the win of course but I was also pleased with the way the lads went about their business. It was an accomplished and professional display against a team who were definitely up for the challenge against a Premier League side."
