UNITED THROUGH TO QUARTER FINALS OF SCOTTISH CUP

5th February 2005

Goals in the first half from man of the match Jim McIntyre, Mark Wilson and Stuart Duff sealed a comfortable win in front of a very vocal United support.

Ian McCall made only two changes from the thrashing on Wednesday night. Stuart Duff came in to replace the injured Derek McInnes and Tony Bullock regained his place between the posts. Queens had ex-United man David Craig in the heart of their defence.

First Half

In a first half completely dominated by the visitors they went in at half time three goals to the good. The first was from Jim McIntyre after 13 minutes when his powerful shot gave Scott no chance. Ten minutes later it was two when Mark Wilson hit a shot from 40 yards which the Queens goalkeeper fumbled and dropped behind the line. Five minutes before the break, United put the tie beyond their First Division hosts. Jim McIntyre had his cross headed clear by Reid and the ball fell to Stuart Duff who volleyed home from 12 yards out.

Second Half

The second half had far less talking points although the home side tried their utmost to get back into the match. They found the United defence, that eventually included young Garry Kenneth, in great form. The match finished with both Alan Archibald and Jim McIntyre almost adding to United's tally in the dying minutes.
