RESERVES GOALLESS AT CELTIC PARK

10th May 2005

Tony Docherty and Dave Bowman mixed experience with youth against a Celtic line-up that featured Henchoz, Lambert, McGeady, Maloney and Wallace. In for United were youth players Abbot, Easton, Gardiner, Burnett, Cameron and Robertson, with the experience provided by Colgan, Dodds, McCracken, Grady and Samuel. Also in today's squad was Joe Andrew making his first appearance since a facial injury put him out of the Youth Cup semi final.

Celtic were in control in the early stages with McGeady in particular causing problems. As the half wore on United came more into the match and McCracken was unlucky with a header that hit the bar and Cameron came close from a Samuel assist.

After the interval Quinn missed an early chance for the home side and for United, Grady fired high and wide from an Abbot knock down. Maloney came close with a free kick and then United had a chance through Grady after he latched on to a rebound from a Samuel shot.

In the end a draw was just about right although Celtic finished strongly with both Wallace and McGeady missing the target.
