UNITED ACCEPT APOLOGY

10th June 2005

Dundee United today reacted angrily after being wrongly informed - twice - by the SFA that the Club had been advanced to the first round proper of the UEFA Cup, rather than the 2nd Qualifying Round.

In two separate phone calls from the SFA, the Club was informed that the information was 100% correct and that it could be communicated publicly. At the request of the Club a fax was also sent and received.

Following the advice of the SFA, the Club posted the information on the website and informed the media who were in attendance at the Lee Miller press call.

A Club spokesman said, "To put it mildly, this is something of an embarrassment and Dundee United are not amused that this has happened. We accept that rules are rules but did expect that the advice of the governing body would be based on a full and intimate knowledge of the rules. However, we have now received a fulsome and unreserved apology from the SFA. This has been accepted and we now consider the matter closed.

The bottom line is that Dundee United are in European competition and have just completed the signing of one of Scotland's most exciting young forwards."
