DEFENSIVE ERRORS PROVE COSTLY IN DERBY

11th November 2000

Another committed display from United was not enough to avoid defeat as boss Alex Smith blamed a defensive error in each half for the 2-0 derby reverse at Tannadice.

"It's a disappointing result. We had spells in the game when we played well but defensive errors cost us the game." Manager Smith also cited lack of confidence as a factor. "We don't have the confidence to attack teams without being afraid of losing goals at our end.

The commitment and the pressure which was applied were recognised but so was a deficiency. "We put in a lot of effort but we're just lacking quality up front."
