UNITED HEAD FOR SEAMILL

15th November 2000

Boss Alex Smith has decided to relocate his squad as they prepare for Saturday's vital SPL derby against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

His 22-man pool deserted their Tayside headquarters in favour of a complete change of scenery - at Seamill in Ayrshire. Explained the Manager: "We will complete our build-up on the West coast, so that the players can focus all of their attention on the game ahead."

Absent, of course, from those travelling were Canadian pair Jason de Vos and Pat Onstad, currently on duty with their national side for the World Cup qualifier against Mexico in Toronto. As the final whistle for that tie won't be sounded until the early hours of Thursday morning, the pair's return to Scotland is not scheduled until the eve of the derby.

Added boss Smith: "Although I will not make a final decision until the morning of the game, there has to be a question mark over fielding players in such an important game who have been involved in action as well as travelling".
