UNITED LINKED WITH DEAN SAUNDERS MOVE

22nd November 2000

Manager Alex Smith has stepped up his move to lure a proven striker to Tannadice and reports from south of the border indicate that Bradford marksman Dean Saunders is being targeted on a short-term loan basis.

Saunders is currently out of favour at Valley Parade, with Stan Collymore, Benito Carbone and now-fit Dean Windass battling it out for the frontline roles. But that could change, now that Jim Jefferies has taken over the managerial reins at the relegation-threatened Premiership club.

Alex Smith would admit only, "A loan agreement has been reached between ourselves and a club south of the border. "Any deal now hinges on the player's decision". The United boss confirmed that his latest bid will not be his last, with his search for an effective winger remaining a priority.

On the injury front, skipper Jason de Vos has recovered from his knee ligament scare and he will be back in contention for a place against Dunfermline on Saturday.
