U19s WIN IN SFA YOUTH CUP TIE

8th November 2009

A last gasp winner saw the U19s progress to the fourth round of the Scottish Youth Cup.

The youngsters rode their luck in the opening half, with only the woodwork and one terrific save by keeper Mark McCallum enabling the Tangerines to go in level at the break.

However, a much-improved second half performance saw them the better side in an end-to-end affair.

Indeed, they passed up two great chances with Stuart Armstrong and Carig Hill both failing to hit the target from good positions.

Having said that at the other end Ross Smith cleared one off the line and kris Irvine made a timely interception to prevent the home side snatching victory.

Then Dale Hilson fired over and extra-time and penalties looked inevitable.

But right on time good link-up play between Ryan Dow and Hilson set up Armstrong whose shot went through a ruck of players with Michael Lee claiming that he got the final touch for the goal that took his side through.

Dundee United: McCallum, Irvine, Mosson, Hill, R Smith, Lee, Scott, Allan, Hilson, Armstrong, Dow. Subs not used: Hindely, Shaw, L Swanson, Murray, Thomson.
