On a Stirling University pitch that was from conducive to good football, the Tannadice youngsters had to settle for a point on Saturday thanks to a late leveller.
Indicative of how bad conditions were, all four goals came from set plays.
After a goalless first half, in which both Ryan Dow was only denied by a great save and Michael Lee failed to hit the target after being through one-on-one, United eventually broke the deadlock after 65 minutes.
Top scorer Dale Hilson added to his tally from the penalty spot after Grant Mosson was held back on the overlap.
But the visitors then suffered the blow of losing two goals in as many minutes ten minutes from time.
However, going all out for an equaliser, United were rewarded when Craig Hill headed home a Dow corner.
