PETER HOUSTON CONFIRMED AS MANAGER

25th May 2010

Dundee United today confirmed the appointment of Peter Houston as Manager on a permanent basis, after a three year deal was agreed by both parties.

Peter Houston joined United in October 2006, as assistant to the newly appointed Craig Levein. When Craig Levein accepted the post of Scotland Manager in December 2009, Houstie took over his managerial role at the Club on a caretaker basis initially before agreeing to act as team manager until the end of the season.

Since then, the team has continued an excellent season, finishing third in the SPL, qualifying for Europe and winning the Active Nation Scottish Cup.

During this run, the Chairman and Manager agreed to defer any contract discussions until after the final game of the season was played and these took place last week, after the Scottish Cup Final, with formalities being completed over the weekend.

Chairman Stephen Thompson said, "I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Peter Houston as team manager on a permanent basis. I think it's fair to say that both of us have known for some time that Peter would be confirmed as Manager, but neither of us wanted any negotiations to distract attention from preparing the team for a thrilling end to our centenary season. I'm pleased to say that the discussions held with Peter and his representatives were both amicable and constructive and Peter quickly agreed to become manager of Dundee United for the next three years."

Manager Peter Houston added, "I was both honoured and delighted to be offered the position on a permanent basis and it didn't take me long to accept the appointment. I'd like to thank the officials, backroom staff and players at the Club for the tremendous support they've given me since December and I now look forward to building on the success of this season for the next three years at least."
