FORFAR 1 UNITED 4

3rd August 2010

First half goals from Prince Buaben and Andis Shala, followed by a second half David Goodwillie double, gave United a comfortable win over Forfar this evening.

Fielding a strong line up at Station Park, United fell behind in the 10th minute from a corner. Stephen Tulloch failed to make contact with a header at the near post, but the ball fell to Barry Sellars on the edge of the area, and the midfielder powered a shot into the bottom corner.

United hit back quickly, and levelled four minutes later. Prince Buaben, Keith Watson and Jennison Myrie-Williams combined on the right of United's midfield, before Buaben collected and surged into the area, crashing a shot high into the net from the right channel which home goalkeeper McLean couldn't get to.

After levelling, United pressed forward increasingly, and were causing plenty of problems in the home defence from Barry Douglas' set pieces.

Andis Shala saw a header cleared off the line by Mowat on twenty minutes, before strike partner clipped the top of the bar with a deflected effort a minute later.

Shala did manage to put United ahead four minutes later. Another dangerous Douglas corner was half cleared by Forfar, and landed at the feet of Myrie-Williams on the left flank. The winger crossed deep to the back post, where Kenneth headed back into the six yard box where Shala diverted home from close range.

Goalkeeper and defender came to Forfar's rescue on the half hour, when McLean first denied Scott Robertson after the midfielder got on the end of a move involving Watson, Buaben and Dow. The loose ball dropped for Shala ten yards out, but his shot was blocked on the line by an outstretched Michael Bolochoweckyj.

Shala again troubled the Forfar goal six minutes into the second half, his header clipping the bar following a cross from half time substitute Sean Dillon.

It was another half time substitute who grabbed the second half headlines though, with Goodwillie scoring the first of a double in the 69th minute.

One of four Forfar trialists lost the ball in midfield, with the ball breaking wide left to Shala, who played the ball through for Goodwillie, who rounded McLean, and then kept his composure to sidestep a challenge from one defender, then shoot low into the net from the angle as another two defenders converged on him.

The scoring was tied up seven minutes later. Following a foul on Shala midway inside the Forfar half, Douglas swung in a free kick which Dods couldn't get a touch to, but the ball bounced back off a defender for Goodwillie to slot home from twelve yards out.

United proceeded to hit the woodwork twice more before the end - the second of those being a bullet Kenneth header from yet another Douglas corner - as the game petered out with United in total control.
