14th October 2014

The Dundee United Development Squad staged a late comeback to seal victory in a nine goal thriller against Aberdeen at Glebe Park. By Grant McKenzie Aberdeen took the lead after only five minutes from a corner. The ball pin-balled in the box and after six attempts Aberdeen hit it home to go one ahead. United equalised less than 10 minutes later when a corner from Charlie Telfer was met by John Souttar. His effort was saved before Aidan Connolly turned the ball high into the net. Three minutes later United took the lead. A counter attack involving neat one touch football allowed Blair Spittal to slip the ball into the path of Telfer. The midfield man got through one on one with the keeper before he coolly slotted home to make it 2-1 to United. Aberdeen restored parity with 23 minutes player after Telfer and Smith were both caught in possession. Aberdeen profited by sliding it passed McCallum. The Dons went 3-2 up only seven minutes into the second half. Unfortunately, bad luck struck for Souttar as the ball rebounded off him into the net after a Marc McCallum save. An already terrific game just kept supplying entertainment as only two minutes later United equalised. Great movement from John Souttar allowed him into the box before he played the ball into Ola Adeyemo's feet. He stayed strong to turn on the ball and rocketed it home. With just under an hour played, Aberdeen struck again. A great cut inside from the Aberdeen player offered them the chance to fire it hard and low past McCallum making the scoreline 4-3. As the half wore on, United piled on the pressure. United would make the pressure count as Scott Smith was found in the box. The midfield man fired a fantastic shot off the bar and into the back of the net to make it 4-4 with seven minutes of regulation time remaining. An incredible clash would end with an winner for United deep into added time. Charlie Telfer delivered a delicious ball to the back post where Adeyemo headed home.
