Development League: Celtic 2 Dundee United 0

22nd December 2014

Celtic’s youngsters gained revenge for the first team’s Tannadice demise when they defeated Dundee United in tonight's Development League clash at Cappielow. However, that was no major surprise as this was a stronger Celtic side than the one that had cruised past virtually the same United side in the Youth Cup last month. The hosts’ opener came on 18 minutes when United were temporarily down to ten men.  Harry Souttar was off receiving treatment when a Liam Henderson corner was flicked in at the near post by Paul McMullan. Although Celtic had been the driving force, United went close to levelling after 33 minutes. Ali Coote won possession outside the Celtic box and fired in a shot which Leo Fasan saved. From the resultant corner Ola Adeyamo saw his header deflected past by team-mate Jordan Moore. Four minutes later, however, the Hoops went further ahead. Following nifty play on the left, Aidan Nesbitt cleverly found the net with a curling effort from the edge of the box. Just before the interval, Stefan Scepovic found the net with a fine finish, only for him to be ruled offside. Continuing to have the lion’s share of possession in the second half, Celtic were twice denied by United keeper Luis Zwick making fine stops from both McMullan and Scepovic . And the German goalie was again the hero after 72 minutes when he saved a Liam Henderson effort from close-range with his feet. Towards the end, United looked a little more threatening, but failed to create any clear-cut chances to impact on the outcome Dundee United: Zwick, Spark, Robson, Telfer, McLaughlin, H Souttar (Ballantyne 46), Tumilty (Montgomery 55), B Smith, Adeyemo, Moore, Coote (Malaga 67). Subs not used: Booth, Duke, M Smith, Horne.
