Development League: Motherwell 1 United 0

24th March 2015

The more experienced Fir Park hosts collected all three points, but can consider themselves very fortunate to have done so. By Peter Rundo Nearing the end of an undistinguished first half, Motherwell took the lead in the most fortuitous of fashions. A Craig Moore free-kick took a wicked deflection off Brad Smith’s back to wrong foot keeper Joe McGovern. Ten minutes into the second half, Motherwell were reduced to ten men down when Ross MacLean was sent off after picking up a second yellow card. Midway through the half, the Tangerines were denied a stonewall penalty. Newcomer Justin Johnson was blatantly pulled down in the box, but unaccountably the referee failed to give a penalty. And with 11 minutes left an Aaron Duke header from a corner was cleared off the line, but that was as close as they came to taking a point which was the least they deserved.
