Bow Arrows In On Three Points

30th September 2015

Dave Bowman has seen it all in his United career and the latest chapter will not see Dave phased by taking charge of the team in Saturday’s game versus Partick Thistle. Dave, appointed Caretaker Manager alongside Club Captain Sean Dillon in the aftermath of Jackie McNamara’s tenure ending on Monday evening, spoke to ArabZONE regarding his temporary appointment. “It is a very proud moment for me although I am disappointed in the circumstances, obviously. Jackie and his team were great boys and he was brilliant to work for. He had total trust in what we were doing at youth level and let us get on with it. Unfortunately, in football if you don’t get the results then you suffer the consequences. The league table does not make for nice reading and United should not be down the bottom of the table. Stressing that it is up to the players to achieve results quickly, Dave said, “The players are professionals. They know results have not been good enough and they also know that the results are down to them first and foremost. Managers carry the can ultimately but it is the players who dictate the results with performances so they know we have to step it up.” Discussing whether he has made any significant changes to training this week, Bow said, “When a team is in the position we are in, everything has to be done to ensure we climb the table as quickly as possible so the lads are in all week. It was quite an eye opener on Monday morning when all the players came out for training. I felt like Michael Caine in Zulu! They just kept coming at me. Setting up a session for 50 players was challenging. The senior players have been great and Dillo has been a great help as well and we have had a good week’s training.” With time passing ahead of the crunch fixture versus Partick Thistle, Dave was clear in his assertion of how the game must be approached. “The important thing is making sure we get three points on Saturday. Dundee United should expect to go to other clubs in the Ladbrokes Premiership and come home with the three points. I mean this with no disrespect to Partick or any club but that’s how I feel and it is how the players should feel.”
