Dev League: Motherwell 4 United 3

20th October 2015

The Tangerines were left rueing missed chances as they let a two goal lead slip to an odd goal defeat in a seven-goal thriller with Motherwell at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium. By Peter Rundo Just two minutes had gone when the Steelmen capitalised on a defensive error allowing Dylan Makin to net. On 12 minutes, United were level when Jordan Moore converted a penalty after Simon Murray had been brought down. Murray was only denied a goal after 27 minutes courtesy of a reflex save by ‘Well keeper Peter Morrison from his header. But from the resultant corner, Moore scrambled United in front. Further chances came with Murray twice going close as did Charlie Telfer, before Motherwell hit the bar at the close of the second half. In this all-action affair, a Murray shot was deflected just over two minutes after the restart and only a great Ryan Booth save prevented Falconer levelling after 55 minutes. But a minute later, Moore scored a third netting after his first effort was blocked. At that point, United threatened to run riot. Aidan Connolly, Moore and Murray having opportunities and with 71 minutes gone, Ali Coote crashed one off the crossbar. However, Motherwell grabbed a lifeline when Luke Watt crashed home with eight minutes left. And two minutes later, Well were level, Mackin scoring from the spot after Moore had handled a header in the box. And right at the end of the regulation 90, Makin hammered home the winner after the Terrors failed to clear their lines.
