Dev League: Rangers 4 United 1

26th November 2015

With ten changes to the team that drew against Falkirk on Tuesday night, a much younger United side were no match for Rangers at Murray Park this afternoon. By Peter Rundo Rangers ran a much changed Tangerine team ragged at a decidedly damp Murray Park this afternoon with the result flattering the disjointed visitors. With only skipper Harry Souttar retained from the team that drew at Falkirk on Tuesday evening, the Tannadice side was two down after just five minutes! The opener came from a Dylan Dykes penalty after Gavin Ritchie had brought him dowm. A minute later, Liam Burt profited from a defensive mix-up to drill home number two. Almost continual pressure by the home side was rewarded five minutes from the break when Ross McCrorie’s deflected effort beat Luis Zwick all ends up. After half time, United finally threatened, Justin Johnson forcing a good save from home keeper Robby McCrorie. Then Aaron Duke had a good chance only to pull his shot wide. However, it was no surprise when Burt scored his second and Rangers’ fourth after 63 minutes firing home from just outside the box. Only a last ditch block prevented Cammy Ballantnye pulling one back, but the Tanandice outfit did get a consolation goal, Johnson waltzing past three defenders before netting from an acute angle in the final minute. Dundee United: Zwick, Tumilty, Ritchie, H Souttar (Ballantyne 55), Davie, Taylor, Horne, Allardice, Johnson, Duke (Coote 68), Adeyemo (B Smith 68). Subs not used: Booth, McNaughton.
