Dev League: Partick Thistle 1 United 2

8th December 2015

In a game of few chances, a late goal gave Dundee United a deserved victory over Partick Thistle at Airdrie tonight. By Peter Rundo Apart from an Ali Coote free-kick which home keeper Marc Waters saved, goalmouth action was almost non-existent in the opening half hour. That pattern was broken when Justin Johnson ran on to a ball over the top and found the net with a fine finish to give the Tangerines the lead. But for two fine saves by the Thistle keeper, from first Reghan Tumilty and especially from Graham Taylor, the visitors would have extended that lead. Having failed to trouble United keeper Luis Zwick in the first half, the Jags were much more direct at the start of the second half and were back on level terms after 58 minutes with Declan McDaid firing low into the bottom left-hand corner from the edge of the box. However, with 11 minutes left, Graham Taylor ran on to Cammy Ballantyne’s through ball and slid home the winner. Dundee United; Zwick, McNaughton, H Souttar, Sukar, Tumilty, Taylor, Ballantyne, B Smith, Johnson (Horne 66), Coote, Duke. Subs not used: Booth, Ritchie, Allardice, Davie.
