Dev League: Celtic 4 United 1

22nd March 2016

First-half goals from former Tangerines Scott Allan and Stuart Armstrong paved the way for leaders  Celtic’s convincing victory at Lennoxtown this afternoon. Allan hit the opener driving home from 15 yards after 15 minutes and, three minutes from the interval, Calvin Miller played in Armstrong who swept home from 12 yards. Armstrong was then only denied a second by the feet of United keeper Joe McGovern with the last action of the first half. United made a bright start to the second period with a Matty Smith shot taking deflection which landed in the keeper’s arms. However, any hopes of a recovery against more experienced opponents were dashed as the Tannadice side conceded two quick-fire goals. On 54 minutes, Miller fired home from 12 yards and four minutes later the winger turned provider crossing for Jack Aitchison to score a fourth with a diving header. There was consolation for the visitors midway through the second period when Ali Coote cut in from the left to drill home from the edge of the box. Dundee United: McGovern, Tumilty, H Souttar, Sukar, Robson, Johnson (Taylor 81), Allardice (Davie 58), Ballantyne, B Smith, Coote, M Smith (Murrell 81). Subs not used: Booth, McNaughton, Duke, Ritchie.
