Dev League: United 1 Falkirk 1

28th March 2016

Honours were even in tonight's evenly contested encounter at Glebe Park where chances were squandered by both sides. By Peter Rundo Falkirk’s bright start was almost rewarded with a goal in the second minute, United keeper Joe McGovern tipping over Scott Shepherd’s angled drive. Four minutes later, United went close to scoring with their first attack when Matty Smith fired a Justin Johnson cross narrowly past. On 26 minutes, the Tangerines missed a great chance to go in front when Ali Coote played in Cammy Ballantyne but he dragged his shot wide. An even better chance fell to Ballantyne eight minutes later when his close range effort was blocked by the Bairns keeper at point-blank range. So it was against the run of play when the Bairns took the lead two minutes from the break, the unmarked Shepherd firing home from 10 yards. Nine minutes after the restart, United were fortunate not to fall further behind when Myles Heppolyte crashed a shot off the underside of the bar and David Smith headed the rebound past. United pushed for an equaliser and Matty Smith forced a fine save from the visiting keeper just after the hour mark. But the Bairns keeper was responsible for the Tangerines’ leveller seven minutes later when he allowed  Reghan Tumilty’s effort from an Ali Coote cross to spin out of his hands and over the line. Dundee United: McGovern, Tumilty, H Souttar, Sukar, Freeman, Ballantyne, Allardice, B Smith, Johnson (Chalmers 77), M Smith (Duke 84), Coote. Subs not used: Booth, Davie, McNaughton, Murrell, Ritchie.
