International Recap

1st April 2016

Four United players attended for international duty since the Dundee match on 20 March and here is a round up of each player’s involvement.  HENRI ANIER Henri was included in Estonia’s squad for games versus Norway and Serbia. He played 30 minutes versus Norway and the full 90 minutes versus Serbia. Speaking to the Club website, Henri said, “It was a very enjoyable experience again. We had two tough games drawing 0-0 with Norway and losing 1-0 to Serbia but it was great to have so much game time over the two matches.” PAUL PATON Paul saw 16 minutes of action versus Wales (1-1) and was an unused substitute versus Slovenia (1-0). Speaking to the Club website Paul said, “ It was great to be back involved with the international team. We continued a run of good results and to get some game time was pleasing.  The atmosphere in the home game was sensational and a joy to be part of. “We are strong in the midfield area and I just have to keep doing my job at Club level and hopefully that will see me involved moving forward.” BILLY MCKAY Billy was an unused substitute against Slovenia having previously had game time as substitute in the 81st minute versus Wales. Speaking to the Club website, Billy said, “I enjoyed the trip and was delighted to represent Northern Ireland once more. The mood in the squad is excellent and everyone is fighting for places. “I will get the head down and continue to score goals for United between now and the end of the season and see where it takes me.” EIJI KAWASHIMA Eiji was included in the Japan squad for games versus Afghanistan (5-0 victory) and Syria (also 5-0 victory).  Although he didn’t feature at all versus Afghanistan he was on the bench as an unused substitute versus Syria. All four players were back at training on Thursday and will be considered for selection for Saturday’s game versus St Johnstone.
