Dev League: United 9 Hamilton 1

3rd May 2016

The Tangerines wound up their league campaign with a goal fest as they ran league runners-up Accies ragged at Tannadice tonight. Early exchanges produced little by way of goal mouth attempts other than Matty Smith firing just past. However, the game liven up after that and, on 25 minutes, United took the lead, Brad Smith sending the keeper the wrong way from a penalty after Justin Johnson was up-ended. Five minutes after the restart, a Coote corner rebounded to Matty Smith who lashed the ball into the roof of the net from close-range for the second. Eight minutes later, Jordan Garden powered home a header for the third. United were now running riot scoring twice inside five minutes with Johnson the creator on both occasions. First he played Coote in to fire a low angled shot into the far corner midway through the second period. Brad Smith then side-footed home his cross for the fifth. With 13 minutes left, Steven Boyd pulled one back for Accies. But United weren’t letting up and seven minutes from time substitutes Aaron Murrell and Aaron Duke combined with the latter slotting in the sixth. Murrell passed the ball home from a Coote cross with five minutes left. And the Terrors added two more with Cammy Ballantyne heading home a Coote corner and completed the rout a minute from time with Duke heading another Coote cross. Dundee United: McGovern, Tumilty, Ballantyne, Robson, Davie, Allardice, B Smith, M Smith, Coote, Johnson (Duke 79), Garden (Murrell 79). Subs not used: Booth, Taylor, McNaughton, Ritchie.
