United boss Smith is pondering whether to further his interest in Rangers' midfielder Steve Carson, who has made only one appearance in the first team during his four years at Ibrox.
A deal looked to have been on the cards before the Ibrox club decided that they wanted to keep the out-of-contract Northern Ireland Under-21 cap and offered him a new deal. Now the United manager, who is known to be a big admirer of the player, has to decide if he is prepared to accept a Transfer Tribunal's decision on a fee, should Carson move east to the City of Discovery.
