MURDOCH'S RARING TO GO

22nd June 2016

Stewart Murdoch today spoke to dufc.co and told how the vision that Manager Ray McKinnon outlined for him was a major reason in him signing a contract with the Terrors. Stewart said, “It was an easy decision to come here and I can't wait to get started now. It means so much to be the first signing for the Manager. This is a massive Club and he made it obvious he wanted me here. He sees me as a big part of the things he is trying to achieve. I see United as a Premiership Club who are currently in the wrong league and I have come here to be part of a successful team." United fans memories of the player who appeared 34 times for Ross County last season appear somewhat cloudy and although other footballers would be offended by the suggestion they don't make an impression on fans, Murdoch isn't one of those. “I am happy to go under the radar as a player. I do the dirty work and break up play. I consider myself a hard worker who is decent on the ball. The main thing is I am here to do a similar job to what I have done for the last ten years of my career and help United do well.” he said. Despite only being 26, Stewart is relaxed about the use of the word experienced as a description of him in what will be a dressing room with its fair share of younger players. Stuart said, “I pride myself on being a good professional and if the young players can take something from that then that will be positive. I train the way I play and it’s imperative for us to train to the highest standards to take into a match day every game this season.” Stewart was well aware of Dundee United,  although he admits entering the stadium as a United player today really bright home to him the enormity of the move, however, he still expects the transition to be seamless. “Seeing the stadium today has really brought home to me how big United is and I can't wait to play in front of fans in these stands. It should be an easy transition for me and the way I have already been looked after by everyone I have met shows me what a good club this is." the midfielder said. Whilst there is an expectation that the league will provide tough to get promoted from, Stewart believes that the target has to be promotion back up to the Ladbrokes Premiership at the first time of asking. “I would not have come to Dundee United if didn't think we were capable of getting back up to the Premiership. I think as a group of players we will probably sit and have a discussion about our target and I have no doubt that returning to the Premiership will be our main aim,” he said.
