DUWFC LEAGUE CUP WIN – SWFL2

24th June 2016

After an impressive start to their first season, DUWFC collected their first ever piece of silverware last night by winning the SWFL2 Cup at Spartans FC ground with an outstanding scoreline of 9-0 versus Dunfermline Development.

DUWFC were up by two goals within the first three minutes courtesy of a header by Kirsty Oliphant after just 32 seconds followed by a goal by Lorna Young in the third minute. There were five more goals before half time from Fiona Mearns, Megan Robb, Georgie Simpson, Tammy Harkin and Fiona Mearns yet again!

There were two more goals in the second half by Debbie Johnston and Georgie Simpson making the final scoreline 9-0 to United. DUWFC dominated the game throughout with 36 shots on goal compared to Dunfermline Development’s two shots. An amazing achievement in a Cup Final.

Credit must go to the players who have performed fantastically well in their inaugural season, as well as the coaches. Head Coach, Gavin Beith said after the match: “It’s a great way to end the first half of the season. The girls have done really well in the league, winning seven out of seven, and it’s wonderful to cap it with an emphatic win. I’m delighted for the girls. They deserve it. They’ve worked really hard. They’re a great bunch, they give you 100% every time.” Thank you to everyone who came along to the final for their support.
