TOSHNEY IS A TERROR

28th June 2016

Dundee United today signed, subject to clearance, 24-year-old Lewis Toshney on a three-year contract. The right-sided defender, who has been capped at Under 17, 19 and 21 levels for Scotland, began his career at Celtic making his first team debut in February 2011 and gained more experience on loan at Kilmarnock and Dundee before joining Ross County at the start of the 2014/15 season. He made nine first team appearances for the Dingwall club before joining Cowdenbeath in February 2015. He joined Raith Rovers in June 2015, winning the Supporters’ Player of the Year Award for the Kirkcaldy club for season 2015/16. Lewis Toshney said, “This is a massive Club and I can’t wait to get started. It means a lot to me that the Manager has brought me with him, that tells me how much he rates me. “There are some fantastic players here and, although it is a tough league, we will be challenging for promotion. I am sure of that. I have wanted this move and now that it has happened I want to just focus on getting ready for the start of the campaign.” Manager Ray McKinnon said, “I am delighted to get Lewis. He is a fantastic footballer and one of the best professionals I have ever worked with. He can play right-back, centre-half and central midfield and that versatility is good to have. “This is a fantastic opportunity for Lewis and I am confident he will grab it. He is a player the United fans will take to immediately.”
