Brechin City 0 Dundee United 5

9th July 2016

The Tangerines recorded an emphatic victory in this afternoon's Forfarshire Cup tie at Brechin City, emerging 5-0 victors at a rain-soaked Glebe Park. Justin Johnson opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a well-struck effort from just inside the area following a lovely weighted Scott Fraser pass before Fraser himself scored possibly the goal of the game with a delightful curling 20-yard effort in the 33rd minute. It was pretty much wave after wave of United attack as the first half wore on and after Charlie Telfer was denied by the impressive Graeme Smith in the Brechin goal, Blair Spittal was on hand to pass the ball into the bottom left-hand corner from the right edge of the box in the 40th minute. United scored a fourth two minutes before half time with Simon Murray sitting home from just inside the area after the Brechin defensive line was again breached by the high tempo pursuit of the United midfield. The second half didn't quite reach the heights of the first half but Murray's second goal in the 77th minute was another corker - the Striker hitting the ball first time on the half-volley from 25 yards to record a beautiful looping effort which dipped into the Brechin net to complete the scoring. After the match, Manager Ray McKinnon said, "I am happy with the performance. It is only pre-season and we cannot get carried away but the most pleasing thing today was to see the players doing what has been asked of them in training. The tempo we played with for most of the game was also exactly what I had asked for." The goals clip and post match interviews with Ray Mckinnon and Simon Murray will be available on ArabZONE later tonight.
