Match Preview

9th August 2016

With the new league campaign now under way United switch their attention back to the Betfred League Cup tonight with Partick Thistle come calling to Tannadice for a last sixteen clash. By Gareth Scott With some top flight clubs already out of the cup, United will see this as an opportunity to eliminate a Premiership club and progress to another quarter final cup appearance. United have already secured a draw against a Premiership club in the shape of Inverness in the group stage and they will fancy themselves to progress particularly with the tie being at home. This was also give Arabs further opportunity to see how Ray McKinnon's new side continues to take shape. United will be disappointed with their opening day draw against Queen of the South so the fact this game comes so soon is a great thing and will provide the players with the chance to put things right and build momentum for the weekend trip to Dumbarton. Partick Thistle have had a great start to the season, winning their four group matches in the cup and having a winning start in the league on Saturday. Former United man Chris Erskine was one of the scorers in the 2-0 win over Inverness at the weekend and he will relish the opportunity to return to Tannadice so soon after his move back to the Jags. United will certainly not start the match favourites but it has the makings of a very tight cup tie. Last season was one to forget for Arabs but during our run to the Scottish Cup Semi Final United did beat Partick at Tannadice in the fifth round back in February. The game seemed destined for a replay until a fantastic strike from Scott Fraser with five minutes left won the game for the Tangerines. I'm sure we'd all gladly take a similar result on Tuesday night. United will have injury concerns over Dixon and Toshney who missed out on Saturday but Scott Fraser will return having missed the league opener through suspension. C'MON UNITED!!!!!!!!!!!
