Dev League: United 3 Aberdeen 2

18th October 2016

The Young Terrors defeated their Aberdeen counterparts 3 - 2 in an exciting encounter at Glebe Park tonight courtesy of an Ali Coote hat trick. By Peter Rundo Indeed, the visitors recovered from Coote’s two first half goals to score a late equaliser, only to be denied at the death. Four minutes had gone when Coote opened the scoring. Taking a Harvey Dailly pass, he bulleted a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. His second came quarter of an hour later when he was played in by Aaron Murrell to net from an acute angle. Aberdeen had the bulk of possession, and the only save of note on the part of United keeper Brett Long was to punch away a Toby Wells free-kick shortly before the break. But the Dons threatened much more in the second half. Long denied first Joe Nuttall at close and then came out to block Miles Storie after he was through one on one. On 63 minutes Nuttall looked certain to score with an empty net seemingly at his mercy, but Long recovered to clear off the line. But the United keeper had to admit defeat to Nuttall after 74 minutes who fired home after being put through by Dylan Thomas. The introduction of Gav Ritchie and Dom Mcmeekin helped stem the tide and the latter forced a good save from veteran keeper Neil Alexander. However, with just over a minute left, the Dons appeared to have gained a deserved point when Storie volleyed home from close in. But there was a sting in the tail for the visitors with Graham Taylor sliding the ball through to Coote who ran through to hammer in  the late winner. Dundee United: Long, Ballantyne, Trialist (Ritchie 76), Dailly, Hornby, Appere, Allardice, Taylor, Coote, Murrell (Chalmers 73), Garden (Mcmeeekin 73). Subs not used: J Donaldson, Paterson.
