JIM'S STRIKE SECURES SECOND DUTCH VICTORY

18th July 2001

The tour to Holland continued to go well on Wednesday night when a fine strike from Jim Paterson gave United victory over first division Helmond Sport.

In a match that was a stiffer test than Sunday's win over Dordrecht, the Tangerines could easily have had victory secured in the first 45 minutes. After ten minutes Jason de Vos was denied by a fine stop from Helmond 'keeper Johann Cox and Tassos Venetis twice went close with headers.

It was not all one-way traffic, though, and Alex Smith's men had the post to thank for keeping a Raoul Henar's header out. United stepped up a gear after the interval and Paterson struck a beauty with his weaker right foot after good work by Jim Hamilton on 77 minutes. Three minutes later Jim Lauchlan showed his worth with a fine saving tackle to deny Polish striker Krzystov Bociek and victory was secure.
