HAMMY AND TASSOS GIVE UNITED PERFECT START

15th July 2001

United's Dutch tour got off to the perfect start on Sunday afternoon when goals from Jim Hamilton and Tassos Venetis gave Alex Smith's side victory over Dordrecht.

In an impressive first half display against the Dutch First Division side, new boy Jim McIntyre set up the opener for Hamilton after just ten minutes. Derek Lilley was unfortunate not to add a couple of more goals before the break and while Dordrecht tried to fight back after it, Venetis's late goal secured a well-deserved victory for the Tangerines. He was sent clear by Craig Easton with just seven minutes left and calmly rounded home 'keeper Rody Hoegee before netting.

Right at the death a good block by Hoegee prevented Jim McIntyre making it three. Afterwards the Manager expressed his pleasure with the team's first public outing in the build-up to the new season. "All things considered we have to be very happy with this performance against a team who were more than useful."

Team: Gallacher (Combe 45); McCunnie, McCracken, Lauchlan, Partridge; Hannah (Easton 68), Griffin, McIntyre, Paterson (Davidson 68); Lilley, Hamilton (Thompson 45, Venetis 52).
