French defender John Licina is set to move to Arbroath for a loan spell.
The proposed arrangement would be mutually beneficial, as the Gayfield club are seeking out a centre-back, and John requires first team action. "If an agreement can be reached, it would help put John in the shop window,' added Smith. "He's a handy player to have around Tannadice but we do have cover in his position."
John joined United from his only previous senior club, Sochaux Montbeliard in France, on 19 September 2000 and to date has made eight first team appearances.
