PROSPECTS VARY FOR TOMMO, RONNIE O AND JAMIE F

22nd August 2001

Striker Steven Thompson is back to full training and is set for inclusion in United's squad to face Kilmarnock at Tannadice on Sunday.

The Scotland Under 21 cap picked up a niggling ankle injury during the pre-season trip to the Netherlands, but appears now to have finally shrugged off the knock. "Tommo is in fine fettle again and has been training well with no ill-effects," said boss Alex Smith.

Still missing on Sunday though, will be Jamie Fullarton who has been suffering from a groin strain and now requires to top-up his match fitness. "Jamie is also back in training but right now he's in a similar situation as he was in Holland," added Smith. "He needs a few games before being ready for a return to the first team, and won't be considered for this weekend."

By Wednesday, the move to secure the services of Irishman Ronnie O'Brien was edging ever closer. A few admin. matters require to be tidied up before the Juventus midfielder can complete the loan deal which would keep him at Tannadice until the end of the season.
