UNDER-20S: UNITED 2 'WELL 4

22nd August 2017

A high tempo season opener saw Motherwell come out on top over their tangerine counterparts at a mist enshrouded Station Park tonight.

After 13 minutes of exciting football, United edged in front. Logan Chalmers helped the ball home after the ‘Well defence failed to cleared a well earned corner.

Just seven minutes later, the visitors were level when Shea Gordon glanced a header off the bar from a corner.

Midway through the half the Tangerines’ trialist striker struck the crossbar with an acrobatic effort. Shortly after, David Turnbull pounced on a loose ball to curl one in the top corner from twenty yards.

The Steelmen were further ahead two minutes from the break when James Scott headed home from close range after a byline cross was floated in by George Newell.

The Terrors started the second half brightly and pulled one back when Chalmers converted a penalty after a foul on Dailly.

A United fightback was dealt a damaging blow with 15 minutes left as a neat through ball was met and calmly finished by Gordon.
