5th September 2017

In a closely fought Tayside derby at St Andrews this afternoon, St Johnstone just edged out United by the odd goal in three.

The visitors opened the scoring after 18 minutes when the Tangerines failed to clear their lines allowing Alaster McCann in to dink the keeper.

0n 29 minutes, United levelled with a helping hand from Saints keeper Ben McKenzie who failed to hold on to Dom Mcmeekin’s corner and Allardice squeezed the loose ball home from a narrow angle.

Despite there being little between the teams, Saints snatched the winner with 15 minutes left.

Jamie Docherty’s first effort was beaten away by United keeper Josh Donaldson only for the Saints striker to net the rebound.

United dominated the closing stages and though the Saints goal survived a couple of near things they held on for the three points.
