17th October 2017

The Young Tangerines were defeated 3-0 at the Superseal Stadium tonight.

It took the home side only seven minutes to take the lead when Lewis Ferguson flighted over a free kick from which Ryan Tierney scored with a powerful header.

Two minutes later, only a terrific save from home keeper Darren Jamieson prevented Graham Taylor levelling.

Instead, the hosts doubled their lead a couple of minutes later when Tierney slotted home Rico Quitongo’s cut-back from close to the penalty spot.

United’s Taylor limped off after 30 minutes and Louis Appere took over.

Before the break, Accies would have extended their lead, but for a tremendous stop by Josh Donaldson from Ferguson.

Striker Declan Glass replaced defender Scott Reekie for the visitors after the interval but, within a minute, Accies went further ahead, Ross Cunningham beating the keeper with an acute angled lob.

With ten minutes left Matty Smith was denied a consolation by a good save from Jamieson.

Dundee United: Donaldson, Ritchie, Hornby, Quinn, Reekie (Glass 46), Davidson, Allardice, Dailly, M Smith, Chalmers (Mcmeekin 70), Taylor (Appere 30).

Subs not used: Bollan, Inglis, Robb.
