Brechin Preview

24th November 2017

A confident Dundee United will make the short trip up the A90 to visit Brechin City on Saturday. Fresh from a very convincing three-goal victory over last season’s play-off rivals Falkirk, Csaba Laszlo will attempt to steer the Tangerines to a fourth consecutive league victory for the first time over twelve months.

Last Sunday’s win saw United climb to the top of the table, a height not reached since an unconvincing victory over this weekend’s opponents, three weeks into the season. Three points ahead of St Mirren, having played a game more, United will look to further improve their goal difference at the same time as ensuring the gap over The Buddies improves or remains the same, whilst the second placed side face a difficult away trip to an improving Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The last time Dundee United played at Glebe Park, a Forfarshire cup tie last July, they came away with an emphatic five-nil victory. To highlight the change in Tannadice personnel over the last seventeen months, if the new gaffer retains the same starting eleven, only Stuart Murdoch and Scott Fraser featured in what was Ray McKinnon's second game in charge.

The United fans will have been delighted not just with the result against Falkirk, but the entire ninety minute performance from an on form team. The three-goal margin was probably unfair on United as they hit the woodwork a further three times and managed over thirty attempts on the Falkirk goal, a far cry from the scrappy nil-nil game that occurred between the two teams earlier in the season.

Brechin do not have their worries to seek. They are currently seven points adrift at the bottom of the SPFL Ladbrokes Championship having managed just two points all season. However, Dundee United fans can cast their minds back to the game at Tannadice in August to see that this game is no formality. A well organised Brechin side could count themselves unlucky not to have taken the lead in this encounter as they finally succumbed to a late Scott McDonald strike to surrender the points and leave Tannadice empty handed.

A bumper crowd is expected at Glebe Park, with over one thousand away tickets already sold.
