YOUTHS SETTLE IN

10th October 2001

It's just over three months since the latest batch of players produced by Dundee United Youth Development arrived at Tannadice and coach Paul Hegarty is impressed with what he has seen so far.

"We have a good crop of boys this year and they have all applied themselves from the moment they arrived. The good results they have had so far confirms that. They are all good listeners, very responsive, which is the only way any young player will improve."

"They have taken to the whole United routine very well. For example on Tuesdays they visit schools as part of the Club's involvement with the community. The school children benefit from having a professional footballer giving them advice and our young players gain by getting their first taste of coaching experience. It's the beginning of a road which many of them may eventually follow."

"Most of them are living away from home for the first time and the older players, who have all been through the same process, are pretty good at taking the young players under their wing, particularly those, like John Shine, who are a long way from home. I'm pleased to say they have all settled in very well and the indications are that the Youth team will enjoy a successful season."
