LAYTON BISLAND PENS TWO-YEAR EXTENSION AT TANNADICE

13th June 2021

Dundee United is pleased to announce that another of our young talents has committed his future to the Club, with defender Layton Bisland signing a two-year contract extension.

The academy graduate's contract, which had been set to expire at the beginning of 2022, will now run until the summer of 2023. Bisland is the latest example of our talented Under-18s squad who has opted to continue his development at Tannadice despite attracting major interest across Scotland and south of the border.

It's hard to believe that with two and a half years of experience at Under-18s level, Bisland is still eligible to develop at that level for another season. The 17-year-old also sampled the first team matchday experience last season when he was named as an unused substitute against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

“I’m delighted to extend my contract with Dundee United," said Bisland. "I’ve been at the Club since the age of eight and I’ve have seen all the changes the Club has gone through and I feel like it’s a good opportunity to get my chance with the first team and progress as an individual. The Club has shown that this is possible last year by playing the most academy graduates in the Premiership.

"I was delighted when I signed my first contract but I believe it’s a bigger achievement to have signed this one. I feel my hard work has paid off and now it’s time to dig in and show what I can do to get to the next level.”

Adam Asghar, Head of Professional Performance, said: “I am pleased that Layton has committed his immediate future to the Club. Layton has worked extremely hard this year in challenging circumstances and deserves further opportunity to show what he can do.

"Whilst still eligible for 18s next season, Layton must look to develop the mental and tactical skills required to cope with senior football to continue his development.”
