UNITED FANS URGED TO IDENTIFY CULPRITS

5th November 2001

Dundee United fans are being urged to help the Club find the culprits who threw a missile onto the pitch during the derby match at Dens Park on Saturday. Referee Stuart Dougal has included the incident in his report to the SFA and the authorities will be studying CCTV footage from all areas of the ground. The missile - which appeared to be a gas canister from an air horn - was thrown from the Bob Shankly Stand shortly before half-time.

United have launched their own inquiry and appealed for fans to come forward with information.

"Dundee United fans have a very proud record home and away - and the Fair Play Stand is a constant reminder of that reputation," said a Club spokesman. "We're not prepared to let the actions of one or two blacken the name of the Club or the thousands of supporters whose behaviour was beyond reproach at Dens. We would urge anyone who knows the identity of the person or persons responsible to contact us here at Tannadice so that we can take appropriate action. All calls will be treated in the strictest confidence."
