STEF DELIGHTED TO BE INVOLVED

26th November 2001

When Stef McConalogue scored his impressive equaliser at East End Park on Saturday, many supporters of this impressive young talent felt that their optimism and enthusiasm of United's gifted forward had at last been justified. A player who has found no difficulty in scoring at every level on his way towards the first eleven, returned to SPL action in the 85th minute with United 0-1 behind and within sixty seconds had created a goal from almost nothing.

"Patty (Paterson) headed the ball to me and I took a touch, turned and hit it across the keeper," said the Glasgow-born striker describing the action from his first appearance in the top team this campaign. "I am delighted to be involved again even it was only in the closing minutes. I am happy to take my chances when they come along. To be fair, the strikers are doing well at the moment and I'm just looking forward to being in the squad for tomorrow's CIS Cup tie against Hibs, even if it's on the bench."

Stephen's goal was his fifth for the team having scored a hat-trick against Alloa in last season's CIS Cup as well as well as netting in the SPL at Tannadice in United's 3-5 defeat to Aberdeen thirteen months ago.
