SEAN BORLAND SIGNS PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT

1st March 2022

We are delighted to announce Young Terror Sean Borland has signed his first professional contract with the club after a successful trial period with our Under-18s.

Sean, whose dad played under Paul Hegarty in the 1990s as a youth player, joins us from St Cadoc’s Youth Club after leaving Hamilton Accies at the end of last season. Whilst with the Lanarkshire side, he regularly featured for their U18s despite being younger than his teammates and was also offered multiple opportunities to train with the first-team.

The 16-year-old, who can play a variety of positions but is usually deployed in central midfield, has been a part of the Young Terrors squad since January and has played against Aberdeen and Celtic in the CAS Under-18s Elite League as a trialist.

Upon the announcement of Sean's contract, Academy Director Andy Goldie expressed his delight at securing his services until May 2024. "We are delighted to secure another high potential player for the professional phase programme.

Sean is a player who had been identified as part of our new Talent ID & Recruitment strategy in West and Central Scotland, led by Chris McKean, and we have been really impressed how he has settled into, flourished within and contributed to our environment so far.

He’s playing with a smile on his face and this is evident in his performances and progress since coming into the club.”

Sean himself added "I’m thrilled to have signed with Dundee Utd, and looking forward to working hard in a great footballing environment. I know that there are a number of fantastic people at this club who will support me along the way."
