MATCH REPORT : DUWFC BASK IN AYRSHIRE SUNSHINE AS TITLE WIN IS CONFIRMED

22nd March 2022

Four goals at a sunny Rugby Park ended a perfect day for everyone involved with Dundee United as the Scottish Women’s Premier League Two championship was confirmed.

A hat trick from Tammy Harkin along with Danni McGinley’s 24th goal of the season sealed a 4-0 win over Kilmarnock after an earlier defeat for Glasgow meant the title was confirmed before a ball was kicked.

Graeme Hart made two changes for the game as Luisa Ballach and Steffi Simson were replaced by Rachel Todd and Georgie Robb.

They got off to a fantastic start as Tammy Harkin rifled home after just 67 seconds, Kilmarnock failing to clear their lines.

Neve Guthrie came close shortly after as her effort from a Rachel Todd cross fell inches wide.

The former was denied again by a leg of a defender while at the other end Lauren Perry showed her worth with a great save from Alex Middleton.

The lead was doubled on the half-hour mark and it was another Tammy Harkin special from the edge of the box that completed a fantastic team move.

Cassie Cowper should have made it three just minutes later but somehow missed from close range.

Robyn Smith found the roof of the net four minutes after the break with a lob while Perry was called into action again with another good save.

On the hour mark, Danni McGinley headed wide but she didn’t have to wait much longer to get on the scoresheet; drilling a shot into the bottom corner in the 66th minute for her 24th goal of the season.

Ten minutes later it was 4-0 and an important goal for Tammy Harkin with her powerful effort completing a hat trick and making her the record goalscorer for Dundee United with 77 goals.

United saw the game out comfortably to complete a beautiful Sunday for all and push their unassailable lead to 23 points.
