An attendance of 6,624 were enthralled by an exciting match that was full of incident, particularly in the second half. Both teams went into attack right from the start and Hartley brought out a superb save from Gallacher early in the match. Griffin may have felt hard done by as his free kick hit the underside of the crossbar before bouncing down, according to the match officials, on the line and not over it.
0-0 at the interval, United felt they should have had a penalty when Saints keeper Miller challenged Thompson. An outstanding goal from Aljofree (pictured above left)broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, a lead that lasted just two minutes before former Tangerine Connolly equalised.
Charlie Miller then broke through from the middle in the 68th minute and came tumbling down as he arrived on the edge of the penalty box. Jim Hamilton headed the winner with just over quarter of an hour to go but was then red carded for an incident involving Dods who was also red carded.
The win puts United up to fifth.
