ALEX SMITH’S MONDAY REVIEW

12th November 2001

Anyone who saw United Manager Alex Smith being interviewed on television after Saturday’s defeat would have witnessed his feelings at the performance of his team. By Monday, Alex was still vexed at how the Tangerines had played. “ The first half hour in particular was extremely disappointing”, he said. “For us to start a game like that was sacrilege. We only started to play in the last fifteen minutes of the half after we had made some early changes including bringing on Craig Easton after 35 minutes.” Although United were down 0-1 at half time, Alex feels the team came out for the second period with a much better attitude to the match. “We started the second half brightly enough and made a few chances but shot ourselves in the foot losing a goal from their keeper’s kick-out. In football terms, that is criminal.” The Team Manager was impressed by the visitors. “In fairness to Dunfermline, they played extremely well and deserved the three points. In football terms you get out of the game what you put in and we did not deserve anything. It must be very frustrating and confusing to our supporters with our Jekyl and Hyde performances following our quality of play at Dens Park last week.
