MATCH REPORT | DUNDEE UNITED WOMEN 1-3 HIBERNIAN WOMEN

29th August 2022

Dundee United Women 1
Hibernian Women 3
4pm Sunday 28th August
Gussie Park

A Krystyna Freda finish and a double from Eilidh Adams secured all three points for the visitors - with Danni McGinley pulling one back to end the game 3-1.

Graeme Hart made three changes from the midweek defeat to Glasgow City as Ellie Mitchell, Tammy Harkin and Johan Fraser came in for Jodie Malcolm, Neve Guthrie and the suspended Fiona McNicoll.

It was a quiet opening period for both sides but it burst into action in the eleventh minute when Krystyna Freda was fouled inside the box. The striker stepped up to take the spot kick but hit the top of the crossbar with her attempt.

The deadlock was broken after 23 minutes when Hibs broke on the counter-attack and Eilidh Adams found the net after rounding Ellie Mitchell to tap home.

Hibernian doubled their advantage nine minutes before half-time; Freda racing to the back post to slot home a Hinds cross.

Freda almost extended the lead further shortly after the break when her header hit the outside of the post.

Mitchell denied Michaela McAlonie but she was unable to stop Adams adding a third in the 63rd minute when she converted Kirsty Morrison’s cross.

Danni McGinley came close in the 69th minute after turning her marker, however, two minutes later she found the back of the net as she rose highest to meet Cassie Cowper’s corner to pull one back for United.

This seemed to spur United on in the closing stages of the match with McGinley coming close again late on; her shot was fumbled by Haaland before she regained the ball under pressure from substitute Jodie Malcolm.

The result means United are now seventh going into the international break, hosting Celtic in a fortnight.
